Gurugram, September 24: The results of Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) Elections will be declared on Sunday after polling ends at 5 pm. Polling for MCG has started from 7 am today. The elections will be held for 35 wards in the civic body. As per reports, this is a trilateral contest between the Indian Lok Dal (INLD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the independents backed by Congress. There are over 5.5 lakh electorates in the city and a total of 202 candidates will contest the polls. Out of the 35 wards, 10 wards reserved for women candidates and two for each Scheduled Caste (women) and Backwards Class candidates. Reports claimed that 546 booths have been set up in the city, with 228 of them being declared as sensitive and hypersensitive.
The administration has appointed 1,794 polling officers and has brought in 1,600 EVMs for the election. There will be a presiding officer along with 56 supervisors and 51 duty magistrates in all the booths.
This will be the first time that NOTA (None of the Above)will be available in the MCG polls.
Security arrangement has also been beefed up to maintain law and order in the city. Sandeep Khirwar, CP said in a report that in order to keep the election procedure smooth, all wards have been divided according to area and patrol teams will maintain vigil. Reportedly, additional forces have been sought from the neighbouring districts to avoid staff crunch.
The BJP and the INLD fielded candidates in all the 35 wards. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress decided not to contest the MCG Election using their party symbol. However, in 2012 polls, 27 independent candidates after winning the polls, affiliated themselves with the Congress.
